Transportation in Medina

Your complete guide to getting around Medina - from airport transfers to local transport

Getting Around Medina

Medina rewards those who walk. The lanes ringing Al-Masjid an-Nabawi are pedestrian by design, and the tight cluster of hotels around the Prophet's Mosque means most pilgrims never need wheels inside this core. Step beyond that circle and Careem or Uber take over. Both apps work well here, cost far less than Western equivalents, and spare you the ritual haggling that still plagues street taxis. Fares are locked in the app. No surprises, no arguments. The headline mover is the Haramain High-Speed Railway. It links Medina directly to Jeddah and Mecca, faster and cheaper than any private car or taxi transfer. If your itinerary includes Mecca, book the train online early. Seats vanish during Hajj and Ramadan. For Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International, stick with the same apps. Fare is quoted up front, no negotiation, straight to your hotel door. Ignore the "airport transfer" hustlers inside arrivals. Their price rarely survives the ride. Official taxis at the metered rank are fine if the apps stall. But watch the meter start before your bags go in.
